Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to describe changes in age-standardized all-cause mortality over time and to examine effect of social capital on change trajectory of the mortality. Secondary data analyses were employed to take 254 city and county districts as units of analysis. The effect of community social capital, which is an independent variable in Latent Growth Model on age- standardized all-cause mortality change trajectory was observed in only rural areas. Social capital was found to affect both the initial rate of the mortality and the path of change rate of it with no effect being observed in urban areas. In order to reduce gap between urban and rural areas in terms of community all-cuase mortality rates and to improve health status between the two, ecological policies need to be taken into account by improving community asset such as social capital.
